outfit of the day(bird): not a keeper but i kept it

sweater ~ Nordstrom Rack
leggings ~ Kohls
boots, tank ~ thrifted

Do you ever see an item on a model in an ad and just assume it will look exactly like that on you, too? I do that all the time, knowing full well that it won't. But still, I buy the items in hopes that they will hang just right, and I will look perfectly polished like I didn't even try. Like I just rolled out of bed looking fabulous in everything I own.

But really, why can't all clothing models be 5'5" with short legs and wide hips? While they're at it, they should also give those models some dark eye circles and a few grey hairs. Because then, I would know exactly if I should buy an item or not. And believe you me, I would not own quite as many clothes as I do...including this sweater.

  1. I think you look adorable in that sweater. Those clever marketers know we are all going to think we will look just like the models. It's the same principle behind selling beer to guys by telling them that if they drink it babes in bikinis swill swarm around them. I also love your boots and I drool over that house across the street every time! xoxo

  2. You're funny. Actually most models have small breasts and narrow hips so their shape looks kinda like mine. But they're young and cute and I'm... well... not.

  4. Sorry if this is repeated, my comment disappeared. Is it Monday bc it feels like it... Anyway, I totally agree with what you're saying. I'm slowly learning what works on me & what absolutely does not. That doesn't mean I don't try...and fail. ;) Having said that I think that sweater looks great on you! :)

  5. Yes! Or that I can get something to look exactly like an outfit I pinned on Pinterest or saw on another blogger or etc. For what it's worth I do like the sweater on you! I like the colors too!

  6. I think that sweater looks like home, warm and comfort all rolled into a wearable item and I think it looks good one you, you are thin enough that it looks just right!

  9. Whateves!!! I think you look so cute in this sweater! But I do know what you mean. That happens to me a lot when I Pin an outfit that is modely and go to try it on my own. Why can't my "effortless casual" look like that?

  11. I think the sweater is very cute and I love the draping. You are right though. I end up doing this a lot with pants. I don't know why, after all of these years, I would catch on that my legs are a lot stubbier than the model.

  12. Aww, I like the sweater on you!! The color, print, all of it, all good. But YES I agree...I'd love to see a model with a little saggy "I had a baby over a year ago but my stomach will never be the same" belly it would be reassuring. And I would get a more realistic view of things :)

  13. You look adorable! I think all models should be 5' 4" and old like me (LOL)! ;) Sorry I missed Monday's link up. I spent the weekend at home--sick. On the mend now, tho'. Hugs, T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com
