outfit of the day(bird): hybrids

jeans ~ Opitz
tank ~ H&M
tee ~ thrifted
boots ~ Nordstrom Rack
scarf ~ Ebay

After years of driving vehicles that get 14 miles to the gallon, we sucked it up on Black Friday and bought a Prius. We traded in our minivan (Cue my tears. For real, I loved that minivan.) and both upgraded and downsized to the Prius. Don't get me wrong, I love the Prius. It's zippy, and cute, and it gets about 45 miles to the gallon. It loves Mother Earth, so I love it. However, in the cold Minnesota winters, I sure do miss my heated seats, remote start, and 4-wheel drive. But not to worry, when it gets truly cold (we just found out schools will now only close when it's -35 degrees), the Yukon will make an appearance, but until then, I'll have to find other ways to warm my tush.

  2. first: loving that scarf. second: -35 before the schools close? hard to believe that number can be written in a policy book, right? jon and i have an agreement that i get a mani/pedi whenever the temperature drops below -20 (sure no one sees my toes, but that's not what it's all about)

  4. Saving money on gas becomes more appealing as time goes on. It can even become a game, as you try to see how to get the best mileage. Your third picture shows you're ready for Broadway!

  5. Ooh, I don't know if I could go without the heated seats. I'm a bit of a spoiled princess that way! These pictures are so fun. :)

  6. I'm pretty excited for you for your new car! I totally get missing your old one though! Good news though, I read today that we might get a thaw next week - 40's! So you won't miss those heated seats pretty soon!

LOVE this look, I love your plaid scarf!

  8. I LOVE that scarf! I have always wanted heated seats! My Spark doesn't even have power locks, because I bought the base model. Heated seats, power locks, and a roof rack are on the list of things to get. My bum needs it.

  9. Well it will be a decent tradeoff, I'm sure. I saw this on Instagram! Congrats to you guys! I know it's difficult to switch vehicles. I always get weirdly attached to mine--even if I hate them. Love your scarf!

  11. We used to have a Ford Escape hybrid and I looooved it. It was so satisfying to see how good of gas mileage I could get. We got rid of it when we moved to Alaska which still makes me sad.

  16. I love this look and that cozy scarf!! And sad... I'd be sad to trade in my car (a Camry I've had since college graduation) too. But I wonder if I'll have to do the opposite in a few years and up-size to a minivan...

  17. It looks awfully cold to be outside without a coat! I lived in the northern part of our province for a few years, where winter temperatures were cold like yours and heated seats had not been invented yet. Sometimes the vinyl seats actually froze and were quite hard when you first got in. Your tush warmed up the seat and not the other way around.
