outfit of the day(bird): costume karaoke

entire outfit ~ thrifted

if anyone is new to the blog today, please be well aware that this is not an outfit i would normally wear. this is 100% a costume. please know that.

chris and i decided to throw ourselves a joint birthday party last weekend. we told everyone to dress up as their favorite singer and to be ready to sing some karaoke...and then we went on the hunt for our very best costumes.

i don't have a huge karaoke repertoire, but the one song i always sing is 'total eclipse of the heart" by bonnie tyler. if i have more than three beers, i will also sing 'love is a battlefield' by pat benetar...so i decided to mix them together and go with the biggest hair, the most faux leatheriest mom pants, the ugliest vintage leotard, and the greenest eyeshadow i could find. i think i did pretty well. i'll admit that i got very lucky in finding those hideous pants. (maybe lucky isn't really the word to use.)

the party was a blast and our friends were all very creative in their outfits. nora and her husband were the eurythmics, prince was there, along with celine dion, r. kelley, slash, metallica, and my parents as dr. hook. it was amazing.

oh, and chris was cee lo. yep, my husband wore a purple satin nightgown to a bar. i guess my pants aren't that bad after all.

what's in your karaoke repertiore?

megan bird

  1. I have nothing in my karaoke repertoire but I DID have those earrings back in the 80's! Is it weird that I totally thought of Pat Benatar when I saw the first photo?

  4. Oh man, sounds like such a blast!!!! Now you got me thinking who I would dress up as...hmmm....Nancy Wilson....and I would sing Hold On by Wilson Phillips. Not the same Wilson, but a happy coincidence for my favorite artist and favorite karaoke tune. :)

  5. Aaah! I absolutely love this idea! You look fabulous and pulled the 80s look off perfectly. I so wish we lived closer. We have a massive karaoake system and do it quite frequently. Alcohol always helps too. Our standards are Purple Rain, Keep on Loving You along with some Pat Benatar (Love Is a Battlefield or Treat Me Right), ha ha!

  9. I was hoping you'd do a post about this! You look awesome - it sounds like a fun time, what a creative theme! I usually do What's Up by Four Non Blondes but as you've seen I'll rock out a little Walking on Sunshine action too!

  10. I think it looks great! At first I thought it was a jumpsuit, which would of course be totally on trend. I'm not a glitz and glam girl but I can admire it. I want to hear you singing woa woa woa woa, love is a battlefield. LOVE Pat Benetar.

  25. My karaoke lineup: You're So Vain, anything by Cher, When I Think About You I Touch Myself, Let 'Er Rip by Dixie Chicks....and if I can find my Meatloaf, I will sing Paradise By The Dashboard Lights. Love, love, love karaoke. Jesse proposed to me right before we sang Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley. Of course I said yes.

  26. This all such a hit Megan! Personally I have a rough time with the 80's {the decade I divorced} and several, many, a lot of songs remind me of sad stuff. But I loved the look you have and the adaptation of those combined singers ...and HILARIOUS pants. I would be hoopin and hawlerin at your fun karaoke night!!! I love that you guys are such "Party Animals!"

  29. Happy belated birthday to you both. You look so fine - really, I actually purchased similar-to-yours "ugly" black pants, with sequins nevertheless lol, but I love them. =)
