outfit of the day(bird): i can't win them all

skirt ~ Marshalls
shoes, jacket, t-shirt ~ thrifted

in a moment of total blogger honesty, i am going to tell you that i hate this outfit. i wore it all day at work, thought it looked cute the whole time, and then i looked at these pictures and realized i don't like it at all. (ok, hate is a strong word.) in theory, i love the idea....a cute graphic tee, a fun print skirt, and a denim jacket....these are the makings of a perfect outfit. but on me, i just don't love it. but i'm posting them anyways because we can't win them all, right? the bad news is that i bought two of these skirts in different prints. the good news is that one still has the tags on it! and maybe in the summer, when it's warm enough to wear a cute tank and no tights, i will like this skirt better. maybe it's not the outfit, maybe it's the cold.

yep, it's probably the cold.

  1. I think they're adorable, but if you don't feel good in it then it will never look good to you.

  2. I think it is all really cute! But I know what you mean when you see a picture of something that you thought looked good and you hate it. It's such a let down.

  5. I think you look really cute! But I know the feeling...I've worn things and then spent the whole day wishing I could change my outfit.

  8. It's a good thing I don't take picture of my outfits, because I think I would dislike a lot of them. FYI, the french is incorrect on the T-shirt.

  9. Well . . . I actually like this outfit a lot! That happens to me a lot too. I'll like an outfit, post it and think "ew!" and then a lot of people will like it. Or the opposite will happen where I'll love an outfit and post it and get zero comments or votes on Chictopia. I think I don't have as good a handle on style as I think sometimes, but it is what it is. I think this is a very cute tee and I think this is a very cute outfit! I'd wear it!

  11. This happens to me too often! I usually end up posting it anyway since I went to the trouble of standing out in the cold for pictures!

  16. Definitely the cold - it looks great. :) But that happens to me all the time. I look at the pictures and think, 'huh, that's not how it looked in my head!'

  17. I actually really like this! It would definitely be cute with a plain top too though.

  18. this post made me giggle - you're right, we can't win them all - but *i* think you did win with this outfit - it's mix/match and fun :) but i know that moment where you come home and look in the mirror and second guess yourself all to well :)

  21. I honestly thought it was cute. But then when you started saying you didn't like it, I started wondering what was wrong with it and began to somewhat agree with you. Isn't that weird how that works? Ya, it's the cold. lol

  22. I like it! That happens to me though - I like the outfit until I see the pictures. Sometimes I think maybe it doesn't photograph as cute as it is, if that makes sense. It is like the camera doesn't translate the cuteness. I applaud you for still posting it even if you don't love it!

  23. It's a score in my book. All the pieces are great and can be reworked with other things if you want. I still think the total look is great too. Yep, it is cold though!

  24. I think you look fabulous! We're all our own worse critics! I love the printed skirt mixed with a graphic tee of the same vibe.

  25. I hate it when that happens. I just had to get rid of a pair of pants that I wore out all day thinking they were making me look long lean and chic. Then looked at photos of me wearing them and I looked like a court jester that had time travelled to 1970. It wasn't good.

I think you are hard on yourself though since I still find this pretty cute.

  26. I love that skirt! Maybe you'll like it better when it isn't so stinking cold out. :)

  27. It's definitely the cold because I like the outfit AND I think it's looks great on you. :-)

  28. The outfit is great and looks great on you, though I do know what you mean and have experienced it. Usually when I see a photo of myself I think, I didn't know I looked to fat in that. Yeah, my inner voice needs a bit of work but that's my usual criticism of an outfit. I have a few criteria for an outfit I love and feel comfortable in but a major one is that it has to flatter my shape or I really can't feel good in it.
