outfit of the day(bird): simplifying

shirt~ H&M
jeans~ Jessica Simpson
shoes~ BCBGeneration
necklace~ Francesca's

lately, i have felt a huge urge to simplify, organize, and de-clutter my home and my wardrobe. i have cleaned out my closets and gotten rid of tons of clothes. i have found myself buying more basics, solids, and classic pieces. this is very unusual for me. i am always drawn to the bold prints, bright colors, and anything sparkly, fringe-y, and flamboyant. but this move to a more simple, classic look has actually been fun and freeing. it is a fun challenge to take a plain white tee and build an outfit from there. i definitely do not want my wardrobe to be boring. i will not be giving up my sparkle and fringe entirely (there is definitely a time and a place for my hot pink, fringed, stiletto boots and i will never get rid of them) (in fact, i cannot promise i will get rid of any of my flashy shoes) (or stop buying them), but i will definitely be focusing more on a classic style rather than trying to keep up with all the trends. i will try and find those perfect statement pieces rather than buying a cheap version of every current, must-have item that pops up. my hope is that this will help my wardrobe feel less overwhelming, more organized, and better curated. i think it will also help me shop in a smarter, less impulsive, more conscious manner. so far, i am loving it!

what are your shopping tips, tricks, and wardrobe must-haves?

xoxo, nora bird

  2. You look very "Sharon Stone" in this outfit.

I've been meaning to go through my closet too. I find you really need to be in the mood for that kind of thing.

Must haves...boots....jeans and jackets. I think I could live with just that.

  3. I've really been feeling the same way too. Trying to move away from trends and just buying classic stuff. I realized I have no basics! When I want to dress simply, I have nothing... I'm working on trying to remedy that :)

  4. I feel the same way. It's fun to indulge in a few of my favorite trends each season, but overall I'm becoming more and more classic. And I find my wardrobe goes farther on fewer pieces because of it. You definitely look great in your classic look today!:)

  5. Nora I have been going through the exact phase with my own clothing. I've been sorting getting rid and buying more classic ,chic pieces and things that can be easily remixed a ton of ways. Good luck on your journey, can't wait to see your style evolve chick! X

  6. Those heels are absolutely gorgeous!

I like to buy some trendy pieces each season while also buying things that I know will be "in" for a while. I need to clean out my closet again!

  8. Simplify! That has been my goal this season so far too, not just because of baby on the way but because I just feel like I have so.much.stuff. Anyway, I say you can never go wrong with a good pair of skinny jeans - these look great on you!

  9. The shoes are AH-mahzing! I've been trying to pare down the ol' closets too but it's so hard! I will say, I am good at only buying statement pieces that are vintage or one of a kind so I don't have the same loud thing as every other girl - but that just makes them all the harder to get rid of!

  10. Less is more! (i love that)

These shoes are fabulous. That brand is a great 'narrow' brand. Luckily you must be a narrow because not everyone can were that brand. (i know because my ydd was a shoe clerk at Dillard's) (yes, ydd is a major shoe freak, like me, but she is way worse). hahaha

I love this entire ensemble. Thanks you guys, for the nice compliments regarding my post today! BIG GROUP HUG!!!

  15. You look super cute!! Love it!

I went through the same thing earlier this year when I needed more clothes for work. My deal is that my work clothes are also my going out clothes. Most of the time. So I buy a lot of navy skirts, can be paired with a cream top for work, or a black t-shirt for going out. Also I am in love with grey shoes and jackets, because you can wear them with brown, black, or white shoes. Or pink, if you want! :D

  16. I've always loved (and been drawn to) bold colors and fun prints. But lately I've realized a need for more classic pieces as well and I've been enjoying adding those to my closet.

  17. I always swing back and forth between minimalism and crazy. I've been concentrating on more basics lately because it's SO FREAKING COLD here that I basically need a whole new wardrobe but it also has to go with the other stuff in my closet. So I've limited myself to 1 "big" item a month plus like, $25 at the thrift store for all the fun stuff I can't seem to completely quit. :)

  23. OMG those shoes are sexy! I love them! This reminds me of Emma watson and not just because of your pixie. She dresses quite simply and elegantly and this is reminiscent of that!
