outfit of the day(bird): my hips don't lie

sweater, pants ~ Marshalls
shoes ~ Madden Girl, thrifted
necklace ~ F21

i talked a while back about stepping out of my comfort zone in how i dress. this is another outfit that i stepped out of my comfort zone, but in a totally opposite way.

you see, i have it in my head that i need to wear tighter clothes. ok, not tighter clothes all around, but definitely tighter pants. i am such a curvy girl, that if things hang on me, they tend to make me look bigger than i am. i have always been jealous of the tall and hipless girls that can wear huge oversized sweaters and still look tiny. me, i just look busty and hippy when i wear bulky pieces of clothing.

but i decided to say screw it and buy myself not only looser pants, but also a big, bulky sweater. and then, gasp, i paired them together. and you know what, i like it. i felt good, and not shapeless, and more importantly, i felt comfortable.

i'm just making all sorts of sartorial strides lately!

what is out of your comfort zone?
xo,
megan bird

  4. I think the heels make the difference. You are wearing your clothes fashionably loose, whereas if you were to wear the outfit with flats perhaps it would have looked frumpy?

  5. I really, really want to wear looser, drapey clothes sometimes, but like you, I am convinced they make me look bigger than I am. This outfit is perfect on you! Totes jelly of those pants. ;)

  14. i feel the same way about my hips - goodness goodness they are quite a force, but i'm ah.mazed by how adding bulk can be so slimming? or.. more likely.. you just have good hips?? hm... sneaky sneaky or a brilliant fashion fix?

  15. I think you're tiny! I am usually pretty small, but when I wear oversized sweatshirts, I never feel like I look tiny either. I personally think it's all a frame of mind. I like this look on you and commend you on trying to go outside of your comfort zone!
