outfit of the day(bird): the family that instagrams together...

shirt and shorts~ b. (a resale shop)
shoes~ F21
sunglasses~ i have no idea. i found them in my junk drawer (if they are yours, claim them now!)

i'll be the first to admit (okay, actually jim will be the first to tell you) that i am an instagram addict. what can i say? i love it. it is fun when you catch a fun/cute/funny/awkward/delicious little snippet of your life and are able to share it, immediately, with your friends! (don't even get me started on adding pretty filters and hilarious hashtags!) it is also super fun to see those little snippets of your friends' lives! who's with me here? i know a bunch of you are because we are totally instagram friends! anyway, i realized the other day that maybe, just maybe, my instagram obsession has gotten out a tiny bit of hand. jim, the kids, and i were out to dinner with jim's parents, grandma, aunt, and uncle. mimi had ordered mac and cheese, and when it came to the table, (just regular old kraft mac and cheese in a plain white bowl. nothing fancy about it.) she turned to jim and asked, "dad, can you please take a picture of my macaroni?" i immediately stifled a laugh, jim looked at me and shook his head disapprovingly, and the rest of the family just looked very confused. (they are not yet instagram savvy.) jim told mimi, 'no', and that even though mommy does it all of the time, it is really not normal to take photos of all of your meals (he's such a hater). we went about our meal and all was fine and good. but it got me thinking...am i instagramming too much? is it weird, or bad, that my kids now want to take photos of their food? or is this the just a result of the age in which we live and are raising our kids? please weigh in! i'd love to hear your thoughts!

xoxo, nora bird

  1. I have no advice or strong opinions on the matter, but I just wanted to tell you I almost snorted coffee out of my nose when I read this. Hilarious!

  2. That's really cute! As a person who takes photos of food, I think it's fine haha. I think because kids have ipads and ipods and all sorts of other technologies really young these days, it's only a matter of time before they are able to use them themselves. And really, if taking pictures of their food is the biggest thing you have to worry about I think you are doing just fine. I would only consider it bad if you are holding up a dinner because you must photograph it. know when it appropriate and when is not.

  3. Ahhh girl I FEEL the same. Honestly I have "gotten in trouble" with my bf a couple times for being on my phone too much. He doesn't even have to ask what I'm doing... I'm on Instagram. It is addicting but I'm trying to take some time when he is busy to be on there and then get off of it. I feel bad because I can't keep up with everyone I want to all the time unless if I'm on there all the time! Anyway, I don't think it is bad to want to share life's moments :) But I have learned to just put the phone away sometimes too haha!

Adorable outfit, I REALLY love those sandals!

  4. Ha! I'm not really sure honestly, but I'll be watching this post for answers because I'm sure my kid will be asking me that same question in a couple of years!!

I do love the Instagram though! And I love seeing your pictures!

  6. I JUST signed up for Instagram a few weeks ago. I have to admit, I'm bad still about scrolling through and being active, but I do love it! I think that it is fine. I built my daughter a Pintrest board last weekend and she woke up on Sunday asking for the iPad and I asked her why she needed it and she goes "I HAVE TO PIN!!!" LOL I've created a monster!

  7. Haha! My hubby laughs at me because I'm always Instagramming my food before I eat it. I think Instagram can get out of control though if you're spending more time on it (or any social media site) instead of living your life.

  8. This outfit is adorable. LOVE the colors and the floral top! Haha, such a funny story. I don't usually instagram my food, only because I eat it all before I can remember to get my phone out. I think this is just the way things are now and I wouldn't worry about it too much with your kids. As long as you have ground rules about phone use/photos and stuff, you're good!

  9. I used to think I looked awkward taking photos of my food. Now I look around and half the restaurant is doing it. It is kind of silly though. I'm not an instagramy person. In fact I don't even have an account. I just think...yeesh...yet another social media thing I'm supposed to be doin'. Seriously. There are too many. I get tired just thinking about it. Now quit interrupting me while I'm Pinning : )

  11. So some of the other MN Blogger husbands started a fantasy football league called, "Wait! Don't Eat That. I Need To Take A Pic For My Blog"....I laugh every time I think about it. Sounds like your husband needs to join as well. It will double as a blogger spouse support group.

  13. Nora, my thoughts:
    1. LOVE YOUR ENTIRE ENSEMBLE TODAY! WOW!
    2. Instagram is awesome!!! But I don't like seeing any food any time on anything online, unless it is a delicious dessert! No offense, k? I know EVERYONE DOES IT, I even posted my fresh garden tomatoes [what the heck did it have to do with simple or sequins anyway?] LOL I have a very very sensitive tummy and a very high or low [bad] gag reflex so ...there ya go. Either you or Megan did a Hummus thing lately and I could handle that. Even some pasta dishes gross me out.

    3. ILOVEYOU&MEGANONINSTAGRAM! You GUYS were one of my first followers there and you are always there for ME! Yes,love it so much! [just don't post food unless it is a scrumptious dessert, then it's great!] hahahaha

and ...the purple nail polish is Essie "play date". $8, Target. [might be last years color cuz that's when I got it]

  15. I love your outfit and I might look for a baby Ben fix on Instagram every morning while my coffee brews! That fantasy football nAme is hilarious and my husband can relate. I think it is just the way of the world now.

  16. I LOVE Instagram. It's been the only social media that has really appealed to me and doesn't feel like a chore. Arlie and Andi both have their own accounts (NOT their own phones though - hah!) and I just set them to private, only relatives or close friends can see. They love to take photos of the weirdest things and family loves to see what they're up to.

  17. Haha! I'm not on instagram as I've limited my social media outlets to blogging and facebook, but I definitely take photos of food! If it's delicious, I want to remember so I can get it again!

  21. No.. I don't believe Instagram is a bad thing UNLESS (like all other social media) it takes precedence over things that a necessary:):) I enjoy it too and I will check out your Instagram. Darling outfit!

  22. "He's such a hater"-I die!
I tend to over-instagram as well, particularly when sharing selfies and pics of my kids and cat. I can't help it...they're so cute.
I follow you and I know for a fact you do NOT over-instagram.
