outfit of the day(bird): the kindness of strangers

h

shirt~ Gap
dress and shoes~ Target
necklace~ Francesca's

yesterday, mimi, ben, and i were at trader joe's doing a quick grocery trip. it was nearing lunchtime and the kids were getting a bit antsy. and lately, mimi has been very emotional. jim recently got a new job that has required him to work longer hours, leaving before the kids and i wake up in the morning and getting home a bit later than he used to. mimi has not quite gotten used to this new routine and she has been missing her daddy a lot. so, yesterday, as we were checking out at the store, she broke down. i'm not quite sure what set her off, but she started crying inconsolably and wailing, "i miss my daddy!" over and over. all the while i was trying to console her, wrangle tired and hungry ben, bag and pay for the groceries, and get out of there as soon as i could. i think the kind gentleman who was checking us out sensed my impending breakdown and stopped ringing us up, grabbed a huge roll of stickers, and knelt down to talk to my crying daughter. "here you go sweetie. you can have these stickers. bring them home and share them with your daddy when he get's home tonight! what do you think?" and, just like that, mimi stopped crying and broke into a gigantic smile. this lovely stranger had made her day! not to mention, helped out a frantic mama! i couldn't thank him enough. and he just smiled, shook his head, and told us to have a great rest of our day. and, thanks to him, we did! it was a nice reminder of how simple and important it is to be kind and how, by doing so, you can truly brighten someone's day!

xoxo, nora bird

p.s. megan and i each wrote a post on styling a basic tee for our Simon Style Setter blog. if you want to see some other ways i wore this t-shirt, check it out here!

  20. I've been loving stars lately. I just think they're a fabulous print! your necklace is amazing too. I totally understand the breakdown in the grocery store. the other day Pigtails got mad at me because I wouldn't buy blackberries and I found her squashing my strawberries in the cart. When I got upset she started screaming. At least your daughter had a more noble thing she was crying about!
