bird.i.y.: lemonade stand

a lot of my upcoming diys will involve leftovers from our wedding. so many items were sitting in our basement for over a year, just waiting to get used. and then, one day they were used...they only got one day to shine...so i decided to utilize them as much as possible from here on out. while i don't know exactly how much use we will get out of a lemonade stand, i do know that we will get more use out of it as a lemonade stand than we would have as a food warming tray. so a lemonade stand it is.

this project is one of my favorites. the kids and chris got involved, we all had fun, and now because of it, we will be raising some money for charity (i'll explain more below).

so, here's what you'll need to make a super cute lemonade stand:
~ an end table of some sorts (we used a vintage warming tray cart)
~ green (i used high-gloss exterior), yellow (i used spray paint), and chalkboard paint
~ screws and a drill
~ two pieces of 1X2
~ one piece of 2X4

from here, it's pretty easy. we painted the cart green. the kids wanted yellow, because after all, this is a lemonade stand, but we all agreed that green would stand out more than yellow. we saved the yellow for the 1X2. so, back to the cart...we painted it green and let it dry overnight.

(who needs a tarp when you have grass?)
the next day, we cut the 1X2 into two equal parts (36 inches) and painted them yellow (front and back). we let them dry and then screwed them to the front of the cart.

next, we painted one side of the 2X4 with chalkboard and let that dry. we then screwed it to the front of the yellow 1X2s that were already screwed to the cart.

eva was so proud to be helping!

henry was too cool for school at this point on his skateboard, so eva did a lot of the work. as a reward, we let her write "lemonade" on the chalkboard 2X4.

and that's it. we bought a ton of lemonade, and plan on making cookies, and we will be sitting outside this weekend selling ice cold lemonade. each of the kids chose a charity to donate all of their proceeds to. click on the links below if you'd like to learn more about them.

if you're in the twin cities, and love lemonade, i will post on facebook where we'll be this weekend!!

have a great weekend!

  6. So much more high class than my lemonade stands as a kid.

Speaking of being in MN, as it turns out, we'll be at the same Package Tour show in Minneapolis next weekend! We should meet up and say a quick hi at a concessions stand during the show or something!
