outfit of the day(bird): wedding stress

shirt ~ Marshalls
jeans ~ Ross
shoes ~ thrifted
necklace, earrings ~ F21

you guys, i have a confession: i am a mess. while i love (love) planning our wedding, i am really freaking out. these past few weeks have been a blur of pestering people for rsvps, changing table placements, ordering more chairs and tables (we only have had about 20 people say no), and still trying to maintain some sanity in my life. my face is taking a toll with some serious stress rosacea, my nerves have gotten to the point that i started crying at work the other day when chris sent me a message saying her forgot to send an invite out, my sleep has taken a hit by stress dreams (more on this next week) and late night waking up with a to-do list in my head, and my body has reacted by getting physically sick. i normally handle stress very well, but i just didn't think about all that goes into planning a blank slate wedding all alone. we literally have to make sure everything is there...ice, drinks, napkins, food, decor, a place to pee, tables and chairs – all things that are normally there when you rent a banquet hall.

don't get me wrong, i wouldn't change a thing, our wedding is going to be fabulous (and i can say it was my favorite d.i.y.). but i want it done...i want to dance, have a glass (or two) of champagne, and then i want to kiss my husband goodnight (and sleep a whole night without waking up)!

xo,
megan bird

  1. There's a line in an older movie (can't remember the name now, but it stars Christina Applegate). Anyway, she's horribly overwhelmed the first day on a new job. Her cool supervisor says (I'm paraphrasing), "Don't stress about it. Just do one thing at a time." I know that's easier said that done at times--but I always remember that line when I get super stressed out... Fab outfit--love the thrifted shoes! T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

  2. Take a deep breath; you will get through this and have wonderful memories. Something will go wrong, it always does, and that's OKAY; it will make your memories even more fun. We were married beside a lovely waterfall, at night by candlelight, with heat lightning playing across the sky. Unfortunately, we forgot about all the hungry mosquitoes and didn't know the place had been invaded by a big ole flock of Canada geese. You know what? The laughs we share, remembering how the entire wedding party was scratching and slapping at themselves whilst trying to hop over or otherwise avoid the goose-y leavings, make those memories priceless!

It's the love you are celebrating, the commitment to one another, in company with family and friends that is the important thing. You have that love and commitment so the rest is gravy.

I love your outfit; it's cool, fun, and confident, go you!

  4. Totally normal! I was a mess the month before my wedding and I remember just sitting at my parents house one day completely sobbing - it wasn't that I was not happy to be getting married or excited, but I was so overwhelmed! Take some time to do something nice for yourself if you can - even if it's just a warm bath with a glass of wine - you'll feel better! Hugs to you!

  6. Don't worry--your wedding will be wonderful and you will have the time of your life and anything that is left undone or gets messed up won't even be noticed. I totally remember the stress of wedding planning, but in the end it is all about you, your husband and the wonderful life you are about to live together! It's easier said than done, but it's totally true. I hope you are able to relax soon!

  9. We ended up eloping because I'm not good at stress OR details. :) It's going to be so cool to see your hard work come together!

And I know you probably know all this but do you do yoga? Forward facing folds are relaxing. For the rosacea I make a strong cup of chamomile tea and store it in the fridge. I swipe it on my face like a toner - seems to help. As does eating anti-inflammatory foods.

  13. Yep...sounds like you have reached the point where you're ready for it to just get here!!! While you don't want to wish away this exciting time, it's totally normal to start feeling all the stress at this point. Take a deep breath, ask people to help out, and drink lots of wine. :) It'll be ok!!

  14. Gaa! it's like a glimpse into my own future! Although I guess not because we purposefully looked for a place where I wouldn't have to rent tables and chairs and etc cause that seemed insanely hard to me! Good luck finishing up! I'm already having nightmares too! I'm excited to see your wedding!

  15. I know exactly what you're going through! It can be so stressful planning a wedding, especially when you get close to the end and are rounding out all of the final details. Just focus on the end in sight! You'll make it, I swear!

Can you get some sleeping pills (over the counter) for the next few weeks? Dang. I hope you can ease the stress - girlfriend!!! (hug)
