last week, mimi, jim, and i toured a preschool that we are very interested in sending mimi to this fall. to get her to behave during the tour, we did what any good parents would do. we bribed her with ice cream. yes, we did. we told her that if she was good, she could have ice cream for lunch. great parenting, right? i know. but it worked! during the tour, we had a brief sit down q&a session with the teacher and another parent that was touring the school. we were discussing that the children would have to bring their own lunch to school and that they try and discourage the parents from packing any processed or junk foods in the child's lunch. now, normally, we are a very healthy family. i make sure that my kids eat a ton of fruits and veggies and they rarely have processed sugars or foods. but today we had promised mimi ice cream for lunch. and now the teacher was discussing this no junk food rule. and both jim and i tensed up at that moment in fear that mimi would blurt out something about said ice cream lunch and get us shunned from our dream preschool forever! thankfully, we got through the rest of the tour without any mention of ice cream lunches. but as we were walking out, mimi yelled, "yay! now let's go get our ice cream lunch!" luckily, we were already out of the teacher's earshot, but the other parent that was touring the school did overhear her joyful cries. jim and i just gave her a polite smile and quickly rushed away, got in the car, and drove straight to the nearest dairy queen for our sweet treats. and we found out later that day that mimi got into the school!
