i have a few carryover days that i need to use before the end of march, so i took last friday off. i woke up early and went for a run, and then thought i'd have a super productive day. i imagined a clean house, clean and folded laundry, freshly washed floors and dusted shelves. and then chris left for work and the kids left for school, and i thought to myself, "why don't you see what all this hype is about downton abbey and watch an episode on netflix?" after all, i did need to eat breakfast, so why not eat while watching one episode of downton abbey. well, breakfast turned into eating a half a bag of buffalo wing flavored pretzels and three cups of coffee, and one episode turned into three.

finally, after three riveting episodes, and a few emails to my sisters about how much i love mr. bates, i decided i needed to stop watching and start cleaning. so i took a shower, threw a load of laundry in, cleaned the kitchen and decided to run some errands. and then i realized that it was lunch time, so i needed to eat. so why not eat while watching one more episode? well, lunch turned into eating a whole package of macaroni and cheese straight out of the pan, and one episode turned into two.

and that is how i spent my friday off. sometimes you just have to allow yourself to be lazy, right?

happy monday!
xoxo,
two birds

  1. Mr. Bates was my favorite when I first started watching too - two weeks ago. We caught up with all 3 seasons yesterday. Seriously, insanely addictive!

  10. Haha, this is why I'm afraid to start watching that show! We all need lazy days, and it sounds like you had a good one!

  11. TOTALLY allowed. I've been meaning to get into that show too, but haven't had time. I would LOVE, however, to have a weekday off to just do relaxing stuff. I'm glad you embraced it! I love the white dresses today ladies!

  12. Haha! I love lazy days like this. It happens to all of us right? I know I'm guilty!
Megan I love your stripey blazer! I've been lusting after a striped one. I like the pink with it and those shoes!! I wanted those shoes when they went on clearance at Target but I talked myself out of it. Dumb decision. Lol. Nora I love your fun bright colors in the necklace and I didn't realize your hair had pink in it now! It's so adorable :)

  13. I think every day off (weekends too) I have ends up being like this (though not with Downtown Abbey... usually some version of Law & Order, LOL). And then I wonder why I don't get anything done!

  14. YES totally. That happens to me on Sundays- TLC Say Yes to the Dress or 4 weddings marathons get my every-time... ug. Why do they do that to me?

Anyway LOVE both of these outfits!! :)

  15. Love the striped blazer and the red blazer. Both are fabulous! At least you got in some cleaning. Usually when I say I'll clean on my day off, I don't clean at all. I might move the dirty dishes from one side of the sink to the other and call it a day... :)

  16. Oh oh, you got bit by the Downton Abbey Bug! oh no, say it isn't so. My sibs are always talking about it and I refuse to watch it. Now ...I will really refuse. (It is a rebel with a cause type-thing)

    Hahahaha.

I love your outfits today, both of yours; Nora's tights and shoe combo and Megan's entire outfit!!

  17. I want both of your jackets! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has lofty goals and to-do lists for my days off and then I get distracted and suddenly I've wasted half a day. Oops!

  19. I think I'm the only one left who hasn't seen Downton Abbey. I have a feeling I would become addicted.

Love your winter white - it's making me wish for warmer weather!!

  20. Oooh, nice jackets and particularly fond of the shoes ladies- both striking and so feminine!!!!
I did laugh about your downton indulgence! I am exactly the same! I put Pride and prejudice on to eat my dinner to, yesterday lunchtime and there I was, 4 hours later, STILL watching, having confused a veritable feast!!! I love Downton, so fun (and I do watch it for my old school mate who plays Lady Mary!)

Maybe I need to go find a cute little white dress to add to my closet

  27. I love Downton Abbey and Mr Bates (bit of a thing for Carson too if I'm honest!) This is exactly how my days off tend to go, I have such good intentions but somehow the day goes by and I've achieved very little, but hey, I think that's exactly how days off should be!
I had an outfit picked out for this inspiration but the weather! Oh the weather - blizzard conditions all. day. long. And it's still as bad today. So I ended yp swaddled in thick jumpers all day. My pretty burnt orange summer dress stayed firmly on the hanger! Brrrrrr
