thursday remix: sister style

you know when you're on an airplane and you get to recline your seat? i swear the seat has to actually be leaning forward when it is supposedly in the upright position and when you finally get to "recline" it is actually upright. but for some reason it feels so much more relaxing to have the seat "reclined". and why must the seat be in the upright position during takeoff or landing? why is that? how can it possibly be less safe to have your seat supposedly reclined a half an inch? i am convinced that this cannot be the case. jim and i were laughing on friday during our flight to mexico because we were seated behind two off-duty pilots and they kept their seats reclined the entire time. takeoff, landing, and in between. and the flight attendants totally let them get away with it. just one of the many perks of being an airline pilot, i suppose. free flights all over the world and the freedom to recline at will. i think i might look in to getting my pilot's license...

anyway, onto the remix. if you follow me on instagram (@mrsbeyers) then you already know i was wearing this sweater yesterday and i don't want to give it back to megan (don't worry, megan, i will). it is seriously so soft and cozy and cute! and i can think of so many fun ways to style it! it was a really great piece to remix. we hope you like it, too! let us know what you think!

inspiration picture for march 4: hilary duff

i sent megan a few ideas for inspiration monday outfits today and she sent an email back asking, "do you have a new polka dot sweater that you want to wear or something?" i looked back at the photos and, sure enough, a couple of them included polka dot sweaters. for the record, i do not own a polka dot sweater. but apparently i want one! and i may just have to get one before monday! we hope you will play along with us. don't know how to play? click here.

love*birds: 2.27.13

things i am loving this week:
~ jim and i had the best time in mexico this past weekend. we ate lots of good food, drank many a mojito, mai tai, and pacifico, got massages on the beach, enjoyed the wedding of two dear friends, basked in the sun, played in the ocean, got only the slightest bit sunburned, danced, slept, laughed, and just generally relaxed. it was amazing.
~ i am so happy to be home with my babies.
~ it is almost march! i tend to think february is the hardest month of the winter. march always makes me think spring!
~ tropical vacations in february. i think they are a must. although, next time i will try to plan around megan's birthday!
~ did i mention i am so happy to be home to my kiddos???

and here are a few other things we are loving...

nora bird
cat eye sunglasses

i love these! the wood veneer frames are so unique. and a cat eye never goes out of style! such a chic pair of sunglasses.

owl tote

another week, another tote that i can't live without. how cute are these hand painted owls? so cute!

retro bikini

although i really don't think i could pull one off, i have always wanted a retro-style bikini. this one is adorable. i love the star print!

geometric necklace

this is the sweetest little necklace. and the colors are perfect for spring! i may have to make this mine.

victorian dagger earrings

these earrings are so pretty and a little bit edgy! i love the gorgeous sapphire-colored stones.

We So Thrifty
Julie of We So Thrifty pulls off the peplum trend gorgeously in this post. oh, and did i mention she thrifted that dress for less that $5??? amazing.

just one of the many gorgeous views we had in mexico. *sigh* i want to go back.

megan bird
succulent monogrammed planter i need this. if i buy it or make it, there will be one in my house soon!!

skylight dress
this is the dress i want to wear every summer weekend. i am dreaming of ice cold lemonade at the farmer's market, kids eating huge cinnamon buns (chris would have a brat), and me wearing this dress. perfection.

vintage peplum dress
i'm giving you all double dress perfection today. i adore this dress. the colors and fun take on peplum paired with the back cut-out makes this dress as unique as it is cute!

vintage 70s platform heels
i've been on a 70s wooden platform heel kick lately. i may need to splurge and get a pair for myself.

sideways anchor necklace
another simple, yet whimsical necklace. i'm loving these sideways necklaces. this one is especially fun! (yes dawn, i'm thinking you need to buy this!)

Citizens of the World
adrienne of Citizens of the World almost makes me wish for winter to stay a bit longer in this outfit. (almost.) i love the coat with the stripes and the boots, and that ear-warmer bow is the cutest!

eva's last day of beginner gymnastics was last saturday. parents got to see all that they learned, and then they were all presented with a medal as they stood on the podium for pictures. eva was (and still is) so proud of herself that she has worn that medal like a necklace every day since!! proud mama.

what are you loving today?

outfit of the day(bird): shake weight dance

shirt and vest ~ thrifted
jeans ~ Ross
boots ~
bracelets ~ vintage, thrifted
earrings ~ F21

the other day, chris was in the car with henry, waiting for eva to get her coat on. i was waiting with eva in the house. i was standing in the doorway, and chris looked over and waved at me. in an effort to be funny, i started dancing in the window, lifted my hands over my head, and pretended to do the "shake weight dance". if you don't know what i'm talking about, the shake weight is this weird weight that basically....oh i don't even know how to describe it without it sounding perversely sexual. google it. it's funny.

so i was doing the shake weight dance with my hands over my head, shaking my butt the whole time. chris was in the car laughing. all of a sudden, i noticed my neighbor's car driving very slowly away from his house. and his head was rubbernecked watching me. i realized that he didn't know chris was in the car, and he possibly thought that i was doing the dance for him. i was mortified. absolutely mortified. and now, at some point, i feel the need to explain to him that chris was in the car and that i was strangely, and maybe perversely, dancing for him and not for my neighbor. because after all, we are going to be living next to each other for a long time.

curse you, shake weight!

first off, i want to thank all of you for the wonderful birthday wishes. i had a truly magical week, and it was so nice to hear from so many of you. we had a whirlwind of a week. chris and i were both raised by parents who went all out for birthdays, and we decided to keep up the tradition. so basically, we celebrate everyone's birthdays for the whole week. mine was spent seeing a fun play, shopping a ton, eating loads of good pizza with the family and friends, drinking good wine, relaxing, and finally, getting a new tattoo.

i was telling chris on saturday that my birthday is the one day of the year that i don't feel guilty about spending money. of course, it's not the only day of the year that i spend money, but i give myself that one day to do what i want and not feel bad about what it costs (within reason). hence the shopping, pizza, wine, and tattoo.

not that money is what makes the birthday, because the little floral arrangement that the kids and chris made for me out of yarn and pipe cleaner was by far my favorite gift of the whole week. and sharing four decadent desserts with the three people i adore most  was the best memory of the week.

chris informed me yesterday that even though birthday week is over, he will allow us to celebrate birthday month, so i guess i have a few more days left!! shopping anyone?

happy monday!

thursday remix: sister style

holy crap, you guys! i am leaving for mexico tomorrow. i am totally freaking out and i can't even think straight, so i am just going to rush right into the remix.
it is so funny that megan was talking about the target clearance rack on tuesday, because that is exactly where i picked up this shirt. it was on the 70% off rack, it was under $10, and i loved the colors and the print. i couldn't resist! since then, i have worn it a total of one time. not horrible for a less-than-$10 shirt, but i thought i would throw it in the remix to get some new ideas for how to wear it. let us know what you think!
