outfit of the day(bird): that's not how babies eat

jeans ~ Marshalls
sweater ~ J. Crew, thrifted
shirt ~ vinatge, thrifted
shoes ~ Marshalls
necklace ~ Heartbreaker
earrings ~ F21
this is a word-for-word (as far as i can remember) converstaion i had with my five-year old daughter the other night as we were reading a book about kittens:

me: look, they are feeding from their mom
eva: that's certainly not how babies eat
me: yeah it is
eva: it is? (as she looks at me a bit embarrassed)
me: yep
eva: (tentatively) so i ate from.....(slowly points to each of my boobs)
me: yep
eva: and henry?
me: yep
eva: stares at my boobs with a look of embarrassment mixed with shame mixed with disgust mixed with fascination
eva: i told my friends that babies came out of your privates, but they told me they came from...(slowly points to both her nipples)
me: nope, you are right, babies come out the mama's vagina, milk comes out her nipples
eva: well, maybe they were talking about milk

i have never been that parent who shies away from taboo topics – if my kids want to know something, i tell them. that doesn't mean it's always comfortable, though!

happy friday!!

  4. In theory that's exactly the kind of mom I want to be. I just hope when I actually have kids I can keep myself together enough to have those kind of conversations.

  5. LOL, I love that conversation and I love that you're up front and honest with your kids - it's better that way I think!

I love your shoes. I always love your shoes though. But I seriously love these, they are too fun!

  6. That's such a great conversation! I've never shied away from it either. I figure they're going to learn the real thing sooner or later, why not from me? As long as I keep it age appropriate, I'm totally pro being real with them.

  9. Haha....what a great conversation. When I become a mother I don't want to shy away from things like that either. I feel like the truth is better than making up some ridiculous story and reallllly confusing the kiddos! Love those jeans!

  15. Cute story. I don't know how you do that? If/when that day comes I will probably start talking about parkas, bee hives, wind patterns...

BTW... thank you for the sweet comment on my blog. I really appreciate them all.

  17. Um, yeah. Arlie just asked me the other day if I was going to "throw up" the baby. :) We had a fun little talk. Kids are awesome.

  18. Yay for being straightforward! :) Better for her to get honest info from you vs. misinformation elsewhere. :)
I like the doubled-up print here - the sweater balances things out. :)
