i have realized that as i grow older, my memory gets worse. i know this is normal for most people, but i'm not that old yet, so why have i forgotten so much already? my theory is that i have so much to remember in my life – doctor appointments, dentist appointments, when is it teddy bear day at school?, when is that library book due?, is it friday yet?, has eva taken her medication?, has henry handed in his homework?, etc., etc., etc. – that i don't have enough brain capacity to remember exactly when the war of 1812 occurred (i kid.) (it was 1812, right?) so the really important things in life are almost always remembered, but what i learned in 4th grade is pretty much out the window. (except the golden rule, i will always remember the golden rule.)
however, as i was driving the other day, i happened to turn on the "oldies" station. and i put oldies in quotes, because in my book, oldies are elvis and the beatles and johnny cash, not duran duran and madonna. but, as i was listening, pour some sugar on me by def leppard came on, and sure enough, i knew every single word.*
so maybe there should be a school that teaches everything to music. i think that's a brilliant idea, plus it would make school so much more fun.
have a great weekend!!

* the title of this post was going to be "i'm hot, sticky sweet – from my head to my feet", but i opted for a better line from their song.

what a beautiful bright day you look gorgeous
ReplyDeleteWhat a cheerful look!
ReplyDeleteOh and by the by, have I mentioned lately how very sweet you are? You both truly brighten my day!
ReplyDeletethings to music are much easier to remember! I try to do that at school with my kids for some things! Such a cute outfit!! happy weekend!!
ReplyDeleteI think that's okay, i'm also forgetting quite some things (but I think it has always been like that, at least as far as I can remember...).
ReplyDeleteI love your skirt!
xxx Anita
i feel like as i get older i remember more dumb things. i can still recall exactly what i was wearing when i met my husband, but i can't keep days straight. i totally get what you mean.
ReplyDeleteand this skirt! i love the colors in it. so pretty - and i always love your hair. it's so cute tied back like that

Megan I love this outfit and would definately wear this same thing. Good mix going on here and you know I have those shoes from Macy's but was mad when I saw them at target and cheaper. You look pretty and chic. I work with people who have no short term memory, not even enough to know my name, it is a dose of reality so I have since been doing words with friends everyday to improve my neuron capacity. have a great day sugar. dawn suitcase vignettes xo
ReplyDeleteLove this pattern mixing. I also have a weird memory for song lyrics on days that I can barely remember my name. Agreed things should be taught to music. My french teacher in highschool taught us songs for how to conjugate a few irregular verbs and I still remember them! Those and french Christmas carols are about the only thing I retained from 5 years of french.
ReplyDeleteLove the pattern mixing!! That skirt is amaaazing!
ReplyDeleteSuch cute pattern mixing! I agree it's so much easier to remember words to a song you love than to remember little details. Have a great weekend!

You got that shirt for $1?! It's so fun!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in 9th grade, we had to take a Bible verse memory test in order to be able to go on a trip to the Canadian mountains with my church group. There were a ton of verses to remember, and my friends and I put them all to little songs. Sure enough - I can still remember them all even after all these years!
i'm always so embarrassed that i remember brittney spears lyrics from 6th grade but not the theories i used to write my college graduation paper. like what is up with that? haha so i'm right there with you :)
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit! And I'm with ya on the memory issue.. mine is horrible and I hate it! Luckily (sometimes not so luckily) my hubby's is pretty good so at least one of us will remember things when we're old and gray! Ha. Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI sometimes fret about how much valuable brain real estate music lyrics take up, too. Sometimes I don't consciously recognize a song but realize I know the words. Eep.
ReplyDeleteOh and our local hip hop station has Old School lunch. The songs are 10 years old. Obnoxious.
I like that blouse. I have heard 90s music referred to as oldies recently, which made me feel a little over the hill!
ReplyDeleteHaha you are to funny. That would be awesome. I love this outfit. Great pattern mixing AND I love your head band.

Adorable! And you're right "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is not a golden oldie.
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous, love the boots. I love that feeling when you hear a song you haven't heard in years and you still know all the words :)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and your outfit! They're fabulous!

Your posts are always entertaining. thank you, Megan. The oldies for me are really old. I am pushing 60 and admit it with flare. My memory is really goofy tho. I think I will spare the details here and make a full bonifide post about it next week. But, you do amuse me and I thank you.
ReplyDeleteI've started to notice that I'm getting older now too, more to the point I'm feeling older.
ReplyDeleteI know all the words to "poor some sugar on me" too...
Such a pretty skirt!

Yes, I agree with you completely! I have re-lyricked almost 20 songs so far to reteach math concepts! I have a song for measurement, mean/median/mode, range, factors, multiples, probability, coordinate graphing, the multiples of 3,4,6,7,8,9,and 12! My students sing every day!
ReplyDeleteSeriously so true about memories and music! And love your outfit. Your headband gives it a cute vintage vibe.
ReplyDeletelove this outfit from head to toe ... such a fun mix of printd!
