outfit of the day(bird): what not to say

belly close up!

dress~ Billabong, hand-me-down from my sister-in-law, Mary
camisole~ Gap, stolen out of my mom's drawer
shoes and sunglasses~ Target
bracelets~ H&M, little sister, thrifted

here are a few things you never want people to say to you when you're pregnant...and all of these have been said to me the past couple of weeks...

"you're not due for another month??? wow, that is going to be one huge baby!" (thanks?)
"you're thinking of naming your baby that? i hate that name. it reminds me of my stinky, old boss." (good to know (not)! maybe someday my son can be a stinky, old boss, too!)
"ugh, i feel fat." (i do realize that everyone deserves to have a "feeling fat" day and they should be able to complain about it to their best friends...so this one is not really fair).
"you look really tired." (okay, so no one wants to hear that, pregnant or not!)
"so, you will have a girl and a boy now and then you're done, right?" (um, well, you never know?)
"once you have two kids you're never going to be able to do anything!" (it may take a while to figure out, yes, but i do know other people with multiple children and they aren't just stuck in their houses all day!)
"you look way bigger than when i saw you yesterday!" (oh, why thank you!)
"your boobs are huge!" (yes. trust me, i know.)
"after i had your sister, i walked out of the hospital in my pre-pregnancy clothes!" (yes, this was my mom and she tells this story to all of us when we're pregnant. thanks, mom! thanks a lot.)

okay, enough complaining from me! at least i can laugh about it after the fact, right?

have a great day!
xoxo,  nora bird

  4. You look fantastic. I bet half the comments you get are out of jealousy. They're thinking, "Man! I don't look HALF that good even when I'm NOT pregnant!" After having 3 babies in 3 years, I stopped being polite, considerate or even civil in the face of those insensitive comments. "Wow, you're HUGE!" "Yeah, we'll I'm 8 months pregnant. What's your excuse?" *evil snicker*

  5. Ha! People are so clueless. It is comical, once you get past the sting of their comments. My mom always likes to tell me that she was 90 pounds when she got pregnant with me. Swam and worked out the entire pregnancy then walked out in pre-pregnancy 90 pound pants after giving birth to me. I am not even pregnant and she tells me this all the time. I am not even close to 90 pounds right now, either. OOO moms!

  6. #1 i LOVE this outfit! Very cute!
#2 man, that is spot on what people say. I have not had children yet, but many of my friends have and my jaw hits the floor in shock when i hear some of the things people say to them. I will carry a huge stick, or maybe an air horn and when someone says something rude, i'll blow it right in their face.
#3 Thanks for stopping by my blog! Myrtle Beach really is a lot of fun, dirty included. :) And i LOVE the belt, i can't wait to wear it!

  10. You look so great! My SIL hates it when people ask to touch her belly. Which I can totally see - it's still her personal space, fetus or not! Is it the same thing with you too?

    1. I actually don't mind at all when someone wants to touch my belly, but I know a lot of people do. It is totally personal preference!

  22. You look beautiful, mama! No, seriously, I look at your photos and it makes me miss being pregnant. And I think it's amazing that you're posting outfit photos weekly. The last time I was pregnant, my husband wasn't sure if I owned anything other than sweat pants.

  24. Ooh I have almost that dress! Minus the adorable baby bump! I can't believe what awful things people say to you! I say you have every right to be rude right back when they say those things. Or smack them in the head and knock some sense into them. People should be instead telling you how fabulous you look! Because you do.

  25. Nora darling. You must know by now that we all think that you are a gorgeous woman pregnant or not. I do feel for you with those boobs...so big but in proportion with your body and you will shrink back when your body is ready. People are funny, how about the awkward belly grabbers, have you had them yet? I am sure you have. This dress fits you beautifully. dawn suitcase vignettes xo

  27. Haha, I'll keep these in mind. My best friend is pregnant and I did a mental checklist as I read this to make sure I haven't said any of these to her. I think I'm good!

  28. CANNOT WAIT to hear the name, see the baby boy, and get "complete" family photos!! Can I assume you'll be thrifting awesome baby boy clothes like mad? My daughter's great auntie got her a bitchin' wardrobe off of eBay, of all places.

  29. Hahaha, that's so funny! I can only imagine all the things that people sometime say.. But you look really lovely, the dress looks flattering on you!

  32. my fave of all time was, "are you sure you're not having twins?!" uh, yeah. i'm sure. i saw the damn ultrasound and honestly i'm not THAT big!!! haha. there's so much crap people say to pregnant ladies. i totally TOTALLY feel ya! people would always say "you finally got your boy. your husband must be so excited." i was like we were fine either way. my friends wanna write a book with quotes of what not to say to pregnant ladies :)

you look lovely. it's going to be great. and you will definitely be able to go out and about. i totally did it with two. three is a tad more challenging BUT i still go out all the time! i even went to get my eyebrows threaded with all three of them today!

  33. Oh how I adore this post. Everything on that list brings back memories, bad ones haha. The "you're not due till when" comment I got once when I was only 6 months along. I love that you're rocking your belly in style. Congrats on your pregnancy. Will be back to see how you're progressing.
