new loves and old friends: the streets are paved with cheese

just go ahead and tell me i'm an idiot before you even read this. or maybe not. i guess it all depends on your stance on cheese. me? well i am for it. i pretty much eat it with every meal. a salad isn't the same without some sort of soft, crumbly cheese. a burrito without cheese is not even something i want to think about*. and anything italian isn't really italian without cheese. so yes, i am pro-cheese.

however, this past week i have been feeling particularly bad about myself. it comes and goes with me...and it usually happens every month. most months aren't that bad, but with the added humidity and the fact that i weighed myself for the first time in about six months, my normal "need to watch 'ps i love you' so i can cry and feel better" week turned into a full-blown pity party. (note, i was the one who said, "ugh, i feel fat" to nora the other day.**)

so what did i do about it? i decided to stop eating cheese for the week (by week, i mean 5 days. and by 5 days, i mean monday through friday at about 6). i thought it might help with my bloatiness and all around feeling of yuck. i ate protein bars for breakfast, a different form of quinoa salad (without cheese. gasp!) for lunch, and salad and hummus for dinner (because we all know hummus totally prevents bloat???). don't get me wrong, i am a very healthy eater, i rarely eat junk food and my idea of dessert is apples and peanut butter. for the most part, i eat like a champ. and this week, i ate like a cheeseless champ. and it wasn't fun.

so you know what? i am going to keep putting it on everything. my body is my body. i work out so i can eat (and drink), so i'm not going to also give up cheese. my name is megan, and i'm a cheeseaholic.

what foods won't you ever give up?

xo,
megan bird

* i should note that i did order two soft tacos from the Rusty Taco the other night sans cheese, and they were quite delicious. thank you Rusty Taco.
** also please note that i do not think i am fat, i only feel fat sometimes. i had to reiterate this to nora the other day after she rolled her eyes at me.

  1. I am a major cheese supporter too, even though my tummy doesn't always feel the same way! Hey, at least you tried to give it up. Some things in life are just worth the bloat--hummus included..

  3. i love that blue belt and those shoes are amazing!

i'm a cheese lover, too. no, worshipper. and giving up cheese is something i've heard about, like loch ness monster, but i'm still not sure i believe. a life without cheese is a lonely one.

  4. what an adorable dress!! I LOVE cheese!! I have tried to give up sweets but it is SO hard - however, I have drastically cut down. : )

  5. I love that color combo. It is so fresh! I totally get you on the "feeling fat" thing. I'm pretty small, so when I say I'm feeling bleh, they usually roll their eyes at me. But it's not that I'm saying I'm fat by any means, it's that I'm feeling the bad food I have consumed from the inside out.

  6. LOL Cheese is The best thing ever! Just ask my 3 year old. Shes a cheesehead forreal lol. Ive been a vegetarian all my life and have not switched to vegan because I would miss the cheese lol.

You look great! The hearts and the blue belt are so sweet together :)

    Happy Weekend!

  7. I am absolutely pro-cheese, and especially pro-Manchego. I'll eat that puppy straight out of the fridge immediately after coming home from work. No shame. :)

In other news, your outfit is so perfect for spring/summer, it's crazy. You look great!

  8. I'm SO pro-cheese. I give you huge props for giving it up for a week, because I don't think I could do it. I kind of live on it! (By the way, the blog post title? An American Tale? Love it.) We all have weeks like that, I understand!

I love that dress, could it be any cuter?

  9. O my I can relate to this post on so.many.levels. I have been the queen of Hannah Pity Parties lately. I just go through these waves of not feeling great about my weight (I know there isn't really a problem there) or my acne or my finger nails or whatever. I don't have a scale in my house because I fixate on the number too much when I weigh myself. I have certain things I can't have in my house. Like Stacy's Pita Chips in Cinnamon. They aren't bad, in reality, but they are when I eat an entire bag in one sitting.
But girl- you are gorgeous and this dress is phenomenal on you and you should eat cheese if you want it!

  10. First, I love your dress, and the blue belt just suits perfectly. Second, I hate times like that :( but I definitely couldn't give up cheese! Honestly, it's ridiculous how quickly me and my boyfriend go through cheese at our house! Giving up such a yummy food definitely makes life more miserable. Yay cheese! (I also am exactly the same when I feel down about the 'knowing you're not fat but still FEELING fat') Hope you have a great weekend :)

  15. I could not give up cheese for long, though I find that hot sauce can be an acceptable alternative when it comes to burritos. And that dress is adorable, I love the little hearts!

  16. Love your dress, and I love cheese. I also don't think I could give it up. Bacon is another big one for me. I have seriously considered becoming vegetarian dozens of times, but bacon is so good...

  17. Tea! I won't give up my black tea. I drink a tea pot by my self everyday and not sleep problem :)

  18. Oh Megan, I'm so glad you're keeping cheese. Life is sucky enough without depriving yourself, especially if you eat healthy anyway. You're beautiful, you have an adorable red heart print dress and it's Friday. Have a great one!

  19. This seriously sounds like you are talking out of my own mouth! I too am a mostly healthy eater, but there are definitely those days (or weeks) where I am not feeling so hot about myself! I usually then, like you, implement some sort of self imposed eating or excercise rule which lasts for a good week or two, and then go back to my old pizza and burrito and (OMG) cheese loving ways!
Rant aside, I think your heart print dress is adorable, and you seriously look great. Just know we all (well uhh most) have those weeks! YAY CHEESE!!!

  20. First cute dress.. Love the design!
Second, I hate yellow cheese but love Feta and Mozarella! There's nothing like Provolone on a Ham Sandwhich!
I gave up coffee, Diet Coke, and sugar for 7 days now.... Feel great!

  21. Megan, you are so funny. I love cheese, I eat it as a snack with almonds and sliced sandwich pickles. Talk about salt!! Anyway, I can't and will not give it up. I love the blue belt with this adorable dress, I love how you are showing yourself lots of love by wearing hearts...great move when we begin to doubt our beauty and loathe thyself into a pity party, as you say. Your hair looks great and the color is great, it is the first thing I noticed when I clicked on. Have a great weekend...dawn xo

  22. Love this look one of my favs.. I am a cheeseaholic too. I am still trying to loose the baby weight from 6mos ago. I love coke too, because I love rum and cokes! I wont give it up either. That is why I kickbox two days a week and do the gym two days two. I want to be smaller and I am working on it hard...minus the cheese and rum and coke..lol

  27. I'm totally a cheese-aholic (on my life list is to try 1000 cheeses!). That being sad, my acupuncturist told me to try to limit my dairy (including cheeeeese!) for a little while anyway.

I'm already gluten intolerant - so you know that's a pretty big hole in my diet.

  28. I love cheese, but my husband loves it more. I do love my dairy though, I eat greek yogurt every day and this week has been so hot I've had frozen yogurt twice for dessert. I could never give up yogurt (or ice cream.) Like you, I work out so I can eat.

I absolutely love your dress and shoes!
