i'm going to tell you a story and you won't believe me. but trust me, everything i am about to tell you is true. so.unbelievably.true. chris and i went out this weekend to celebrate a friend's birthday. before we met up with everyone, we decided to hit up the local dive bar for a pre-celebration drink. we were playing a game of pool, and the following happened.

1. a car pulled into the parking lot and hit another car.
2. the man and woman in the offending car got out and came into the bar like nothing had happened.
3. said man and woman sat at a table, presumably to order some (more) beers.
4. said man had at least four iv cords hanging from various parts of his body, as if he had just escaped from a hospital.
5. the couple decided to leave (i can only assume they knew everyone was on to them for the hit and run outside in the parking lot).
6. the man got his iv cords tangled in a bar stool and knocked down two stools in the process. it took three people to get him untangled.
7. outside, a squad car was waiting for the man (the bartender must have called the cops).
8. the cop gave the man a breathalyzer, and somehow, he passed.
9. the cops let the man go. yes, they let him go.
10. as the man was backing his car out of the parking lot, he hit another car. another car, people.
11. the cops came back, followed by an ambulance and a fire truck.
12. the man was taken away in an ambulance.

it was ridiculous. i'm not sure why he had all the iv cords, or why he was driving, or why he was hitting so many cars, but i can only hope they brought him back to the hospital and took care of him. the funniest part of the night for me was when the super tan, super ripped, and super chiseled cop walked into the bar, the juke box intuitively started playing "funky town", and fog started blowing beneath his feet. ok, there was no fog, but the rest of the story is true. honestly.

happy monday!

outfit of the day(bird): tgif

jacket~ BDG, hand-me-down from megan
dress/belt~ F21
leggings~ Target
shoes~ Banana Republic, thrifted
necklace~ b. (a resale shop)

i thought i ordered this dress in coral, but apparently i had a moment of crazy and ordered it in yellow. yellow is not a color i normally wear. i love yellow but i just don't love it on me. i also ordered this dress a size too large. even with the giant belly and boobs, the dress is just a tad too big. i may grow into it in the next couple of months, but still... so, wrong color and wrong size? you would think that when i received this on my doorstep and realized all of this that i would return it and re-order what i actually wanted. but no. i ripped the tags off, put the dress on and took blog photos. obviously.

happy friday, everyone! i hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

having grown up in a family of all girls, i was not quite prepared for all that comes with having a boy. the other day, i happened to walk by the open bathroom door when henry was using the facilities. and there he was, hands cupped around the back of his head, stretching last night's sleep out of his chest and arms, while peeing. and that's when it hit me. this is why i am cleaning the toilet and the three-foot radius around it because seven-year-old boys (and their dads, most likely) think they can pee with no hands. i'm all for multi-tasking...but there's a time and a place. any moms of boys out there know what i'm talking about?

things i am loving this week:
~ yesterday's weather was gorgeous. warm, sunny and perfect. mimi and i went to the park not once, but twice, and then we went out for pizza. it was a good day.
~ baby boy has been kicking a ton and i love it. it is so fun to feel him move around and know he is growing and getting stronger every day.
~ i got a few new goodies in the mail yesterday. it's so fun getting little presents for yourself every once in a while!
~ i have a haircut appointment tomorrow. i am trying to grow it out but it desperately needs a trim and style, so i am very excited.
~ blood orange italian sodas and iced chai teas with soy milk. i cannot get enough of either of them.

and here are a few other things we are loving this week...

this dress is so adorable. i love the sweet pattern, the sleeves, the dropwaist, and the fact that it is on sale. bonus!

this is such a cool, durable carry all. i love the stripes, and the simple yet classic look. such a great tote that i would love to use every day.

holy crap i want this blazer. i really do not need another blazer in my closet, but gosh...i think i may have to buy this one.

looooove these! i kind of want to get them in both colors!

this dress is adorable. the striped skirt is so cute and i love that the straps convert into so many different styles. so fun!

vintage honolulu sundress
i love the color and fit of this dress. and the ruffle at the bottom makes it all the better! i'm just waiting for summer!

vintage europe hoop map
as if i need another map item in my home. but come on, it's a vintage map of europe, in an embroidery hoop. must have!

vintage floral skirt
i love the colors of this skirt. and the unique waistband. and the pockets. who doesn't love a skirt with pockets???

woven platform heels
i love the vibe of these shoes. they are muted in color (for me), but still have the impossibly high platform heel that i love!

turquoise and gold statement necklace
talk about a statement! this necklace makes about 10 statements...all of them good! i love it!

what are you loving this week?
happy wednesday!

tuesday remix: sister style

so, i really don't like spiders. at all. they terrify me. like, so much. if i even see a spider i immediately get the creepy crawly feeling that it is on me. and then i actually believe that it is on me. this annoys my husband to no end. i always make him catch spiders and throw them outside but i don't ever want him to kill them, partly because i know that spiders are good to have around. they are like the lion of the bug of the food chain. they eat all of the other yucky bugs so i don't have to deal with them. but the main reason i won't let him kill spiders is because i truly think their family members might find out and come after me. or maybe jim will fail and the spider won't actually die. and then i fear this:
this is seriously the scariest picture ever. and there you have another little glimpse into how crazy i am.

anyway, enough about spiders because now i seriously feel like they are crawling all over me. lets talk about the remix. this week i chose a dress i bought quite a while ago at H&M. it was on sale for $10 so, at the time, i decided i couldn't pass it up. and then i never wore it. so, into the remix it went. of course, i waited until i was pregnant to wear it which probably wasn't the best idea. but since megan wore it, too, i can also see what it looks like on someone who is not pregnant. perfect! let us know what you think!

the family and i took advantage of some of the free earth day specials yesterday. free caribou coffee and a free full-size origins lotion to name two all of them. when we got to origins, we were given two choices of moisturizers. one was a preventative wrinkle lotion, and the other was a 'too bad you already have wrinkles, let's see what we can do about them' lotion. the (very young) woman asked me which one i would like, and i quickly said i would like the one that gets rid of wrinkles. as if to make sure i really needed it, the (very young) woman looked my face up and down very methodically a few times and said, "yep. ok!" buzz kill. i was kind of hoping she would have put up a bit of an argument on my behalf.

weekend breakfast: apple cakes

i think i may have found the most delicious and easiest breakfasts around. ok, it's probably not the easiest. a bowl of cereal is easiest. or a banana. a banana is a pretty easy breakfast. but today's breakfast was way better than a banana, so the little extra work was worth it.

of course i never measure anything, which is why i'm a good cook, but not a good baker. so, you will have to make do with my estimates. but i am pretty sure this is a no-brainer/no-fail recipe.

i made a pancake batter out of about 3/4 cup bisquick mix and 1/2 cup water. enough to make it pancake batter consistency, at least. i then added about three shakes of pumpkin pie spice. i cored an apple (which was the hardest part because i don't actually have an apple corer) and dipped each slice in the batter and cooked! voila, apple cakes.

of course, you can eat them plain, or with yogurt or syrup, but we chose almond cocoa spread (from trader joe's) (nutella would be a good substitute if there isn't a trader joe's nearby) (peanut butter would also be delicious) because almond cocoa spread makes everything better.

and the kids loved it...happy kids = happy mom!

(no picture of happy mom because she just worked out and currently has about a quarter cup of calming oil slathered in her hair.)

have a great day!
